The Tightener, alternatively referred to as a Ratchet Tensioner, serves a crucial role in the construction of overhead power lines by ensuring the secure tightening of conductors. During operation, the initial step involves loosening the steel wire rope or galvanized steel strand attached to the tightener and securely affixing it to the crossarm. Following this, a wire clamp is employed to firmly grasp the conductor, and a specialized wrench is then engaged. The unique anti-reverse mechanism of the pawl facilitates the gradual winding of the steel wire rope or galvanized strand around the ratchet drum, thereby tightening the conductor. Once the desired tension is achieved, the tightened conductor is fastened to the insulator. To conclude the process, the pawl is first disengaged to release the tension on the steel wire rope or galvanized strand, the wire clamp is subsequently removed, and finally, the steel wire rope or galvanized strand is neatly coiled back onto the drum of the ratchet for future use.
